Hawaii is a hub for human trafficking, which is the fastest growing criminal industry in the U.S. But often, we don't notice because victims do jobs that have low visability.
They are the laborers in farm fields or sweatships. Dishwashers in restaurants. Landscape workers and janitors. They are women and young girls who are forced into the sex trade.
Victims are brought in from all over the world. Recruiters deceive them, promising good living conditions and decent wages. After they arrive, their passports are taken away and they are forced to work in terrible conditions for little or no pay.
It could be happening in your neighborhood, no matter where you live. So take a good look around, and contact us if you think someone is being exploited.

New Video: Farm Workers Exploited

Thousands of laborers from Southeast Asia have been lured to America with false promises of high pay, then abandoned. To learn more about their dire situation and how it affects their families back home, please watch our new video on 808HALT's YouTube Channel. We'll be adding additional segments in the future, so please check back each month! Click here to see the segment on Human Trafficking on Hawaii Farms.

Red Flags: Recognize the Signs

Victims appear to be under someone else's control. They may exhibit submissive or fearful behavior. They don't manage their own money or have identification documents. Someone controls all aspects of their lives. For more details, click here to download a printable brochure. You can also learn more by visiting www.acf.hhs.gov/trafficking.
